An Open Letter

Dear Stress, Anxiety, and Depression,

I've suffered under you for too long. You...*suffocate* me, and all the good things I know I'm capable of.

We can't continue on this road together, you and I. This has been a long time coming. I think we both know that.

You are an uninvited guest in my life, my home, and my thoughts.

In the last while, there have been (serious) consequences from carrying you around in my life... the aftermath from believing the lies you tell me, and embarrassment and shame, because I try to hide you (from me and others).

I'm angry now, that part of me has grown so used to you (likes you even?) - you've become so familiar and so "normal". But it's too much now.

No matter how entrenched in you I've become, or how comfortable with you a part of me is, a bigger part of me realises that the price I'm paying everyday, is too much.

Now I know that the pain of moving on, no matter how hard, will be worth it. Rather than staying trapped in these circles I'm going round in.

I'll probably need help with this.

I used to think that was shameful. After all, I'm never enough... right?

But now I know better.

I'm not through it yet, but with the right counselling help, I will be soon.

What Is Counselling?

Counselling means working together with your counsellor, talking through the issues troubling you, and arriving at better and more appropriate perspectives, that allow you to move on, in life.

Getting that independent help from a professional in the field, can free your mind from what you thought an event meant, about you, or your life.

Counselling gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings, and open up, in a way not usually possible during daily life.

Each session is a safe and supportive space within which to explore and better understand the issue you face.

Understanding the past and coming to peace with it, provides new avenues for the future, you hadn't realised were there. Many find the experience liberating.

Our independent professional counsellors work with you face-to-face, in discreet and comfortable locations throughout central Newcastle, and surrounding area.

Counselling .v. Psychotherapy?

What's the difference between Counselling & Psychotherapy?

Counselling is usually considered more of a shorter term intervention to assist with a specific issue or situation you're dealing with currently.

Whereas, Psychotherapy tends to be a longer exploration of your core personality, values, and beliefs, and how they came to be, as well as how they moulded you into the person you are today.

Both are appropriate, in different circumstances, and according to your needs.

At Truth Counselling Newcastle, we focus on providing a Counselling service, not Psychotherapy.

We can usually arrange a daytime or weekday evening appointment that fits your schedule.

Alternatively, we may be able to arrange telephone counselling, if preferred, on an individual basis.

Weekend appointments are also available by arrangement.

Our counsellors have experience in a number of therapeutic approaches and can provide support for adults and couples aged 18 or older.

Issues We Work With

If you're struggling with:

  • A trauma, or memory you can't get over
  • A failed or failing relationship
  • Unexplained nervousness, anxiety, or depression
  • Anger, addiction, or loss

...or any number of other issues, counselling can probably help.

Initial calls are free, and can help you get your questions answered, and decide if counselling might be right for you.

How Long Does Counselling Take?

We don't offer a "quick fix" solution or the latest self-help gimmick.

Whilst we would love to help everyone in a single session, sadly this is usually not enough time to allow proper exploration of your feelings, and an appropriate resolution.

We see most individuals for 3-6 weeks or longer, for deeper issues.

Counselling is a highly individual experience, and depends on factors very personal to you, and the time you need to process new meanings, attached to old situations.

Throughout your sessions we will keep track of your progress, and make sure we are working towards your desired goals.

See our FAQs for more details.

First Session

Your first counselling session is a great opportunity to get to know your counsellor, and feel sure that you are a good match together.

You can ask any questions you want, without fear of judgement.

What You Should Know

All our counsellors work independently, and are responsible for their own registrations with professional bodies, insurance registrations, and Continuing Professional Development.

Many are also recognised and registered to provide services via private insurance operators such as BUPA or Cigna - please ask when calling.

Similarly, some are also registered to provide support via Employee Assistance Programs. Again, for this, please ask when enquiring.
