Counselling Or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

All our therapists are in private practice. This means charges apply to our service.

Our therapists may utilise counselling, talk therapy and cognitive therapy techniques as part of the therapy process.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer a chartered psychologist, clinical psychologists, or psychiatric assessment service.

For this, may we suggest contacting clinical psychologist Dr Stuart Saddler in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Our service is not suitable for those with suicidal thoughts - please present immediately to your local emergency service in this instance.

We work with young people and adults aged 18 or over.

As well as in person sessions, some of our therapists may offer online therapy, telephone counselling, or home visits, by request (subject to any restrictions as a result of COVID-19).

What Is Counselling?

Counselling means working together with a professional counsellor, talking through the issues troubling you, and arriving at better and more appropriate perspectives, that allow you to move on, in life.

We all need help from time to time, with traumatic events, life changes, relationship difficulties, conflict with family members, and other mental health issues.

Getting independent help from an experienced therapist or appropriate mental health professionals, can free your mind from what you thought an event meant, about you, or your life.

Speaking to a professional counsellor about your issues gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings, and open up, in a way not usually possible during daily life.

Each in person session is a safe and supportive space within which to explore and better understand the stress and life issues you face.

Understanding the past and coming to peace with it, provides new avenues for the future, you hadn't realised were there. Many find the experience liberating.

Counselling .v. Psychotherapy?

Counselling is usually considered more of a short term intervention to assist with a specific issue or situation you're dealing with currently.

Whereas, Psychotherapy tends to be a longer exploration of your core personality, values, and beliefs, and how they came to be, as well as how they moulded you into the person you are today. Both are appropriate, in different circumstances, and according to your needs.

Our counsellors focus on providing a Counselling service, not Psychotherapy.

However, other modalities may be available from a selection of our therapists, depending on their proferssional qualifications, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR), Commitment Therapy, and others. Please ask when calling.


We can usually arrange a daytime or weekday evening appointment that fits your schedule.

Alternatively, we may be able to work via telephone, or online, if preferred, on an individual basis.

We may deliver an online-only service during the current Coronavirus issues.

Weekend appointments may also be available by arrangement.

Our counsellors have experience in a number of therapeutic approaches and can provide support for adults and couples aged 18 or older.

Some, but not all, of our counsellors are able to offer telephone sessions, if this is more convenient - please ask when contacting us.

Initial calls are free, and can help you get your questions answered, and decide if we might be a good fit for you.

How Long Does Counselling Help Take?

We don't offer a "quick fix" solution, or the latest self-help gimmick.

Whilst we would love to help everyone in a single session, sadly this is not enough time to allow proper exploration of your feelings, and an appropriate resolution.

We see most individuals for 6 weeks, or longer, for deeper issues. We work with young people and more mature alike, serving adults aged 18-65+. We provide counselling services for individuals, couples, and families.

Counselling is a highly individual experience, and depends on factors very personal to you, and the time needed to process new meanings, attached to old situations.

Throughout your sessions, we'll keep track of your progress together, and make sure we are working towards your desired goals.

Other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy may offer the opportunity to have shorter or longer term interventions, by arrangement.

Your first session is a great opportunity to get to know your counsellor, and feel sure that you are a good match together.

You can ask any questions you want, without fear of judgement.

What You Should Know

All our therapists work independently, and are responsible for their own registrations with professional bodies, insurance registrations, and Continuing Professional Development.

Some are also recognised and registered to provide services via private insurance operators such as BUPA or Cigna - please ask when calling.

Similarly, some are also registered to provide support via Employee Assistance Programs. Again, for this, please ask when enquiring.
